Resilience isn’t found in hacks: Mark Sisson on walking, saunas, and keeping it simple

Mark Sisson is the founder of the Primal Blueprint lifestyle and the author of several books on ancestral health. A former elite endurance athlete, he focuses on strategies that build functional strength, metabolic flexibility, and real-life resilience.

In a post on X, fitness author Mark Sisson warned against the obsession with overengineered health hacks, urging people to focus on practices that actually build resilience.

“Biohacking for health is usually like day trading for financial security,” Sisson wrote. “You’re really gambling, and you really have to get things right. At best, you’re wasting your time with maybe a few lucky hits here and there. At worst, you’re sacrificing your long-term health.”

Instead of chasing hacks, Sisson laid out three routines he believes support long-term health: post-workout sauna use, walking after meals, and blending tea into coffee.

He described a method he calls “reverse searing the sauna,” which involves working out first and then entering the sauna already sweating. “You only need to stay five to ten minutes before it’s unbearable. For me, that’s the marker I’m looking for.”

Sisson also highlighted the benefits of a walk after eating. He emphasized its social and emotional value in addition to its ability to help regulate blood sugar. “You eat a nice meal, go for a walk with your spouse or friends, and continue the conversation. It’s functional.”

Lastly, he shared a tip for drinking more tea by adding a tea bag directly to brewed coffee. He recommended blends like Earl Grey, chamomile, or green tea, saying, “Brewed coffee is the perfect temperature to extract tea.”
