Biohacker and author Dave Asprey suggests that cream of tartar is a more effective and practical alternative to tamarind for fluoride detoxification.
“Cream of tartar delivers the same fluoride-binding tartaric acid in a much more convenient way,” Asprey wrote in a blog post.
Asprey explains that tamarind‘s fluoride-detoxifying properties stem from its tartaric acid content, which increases urinary pH and facilitates fluoride excretion. However, he points out that tamarind is susceptible to mold contamination, specifically from Aspergillus niger, posing potential health risks.
In contrast, cream of tartar (potassium bitartrate) offers a direct and mold-free source of tartaric acid. It is readily available in most grocery stores and is cost-effective, with a three-month supply costing approximately $1.80. Asprey recommends a daily dose of 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon mixed with water, taken with meals to minimize potential gastrointestinal discomfort.
