Wim Hof, the Dutch extreme athlete and creator of the Wim Hof Method, said moods, which are related to trauma, can be regulated through The Wim Hof Method.
“You are able to regulate your mood,” Hof posted on X. “And the mood is related to trauma.”
“It will block your life, your quality, your rage, your anger, your aggression — it’s non-processed,” Hof said. “And now we found the keys to deal with non-processed trauma.”
The statement underscores Hof’s belief that his method, which combines cold exposure, breathing exercises, and meditation, can unlock solutions to deep-seated emotional challenges.
The Wim Hof Method, developed by Hof, integrates cold exposure (like ice baths), specific breathing techniques, and mindfulness meditation.
A 2022 paper published in Frontiers in Psychiatry examined the effects of an 8-week Wim Hof Method training program on members of an Antarctic expedition. Participants who practiced the method, which included breathing exercises, cold exposure, and meditation, experienced a reduction in depressive symptoms compared to a control group.
Nicknamed “The Iceman,” Hof, born April 20, 1959, in Sittard, Netherlands, is a world-renowned extreme athlete and motivational speaker. Holding multiple Guinness World Records for feats like enduring ice baths and climbing Mount Kilimanjaro in shorts, Hof has spent decades promoting his method as a way to enhance physical performance, boost immunity, and improve mental health.
