Dave Asprey: ‘The right kind of fiber can feed your brain as well as your gut’

Dave Asprey is the founder of Bulletproof and Upgrade Labs and is considered one of the pioneers of the biohacking movement. He is a four-time New York Times bestselling author focused on helping people extend their healthspan and optimize performance.

In a recent post, biohacker and entrepreneur Dave Asprey spotlighted prebiotic fiber as a triple-threat tool for health—supporting digestion, immune strength, and even cognitive performance.

“Prebiotic fiber is fuel for your gut bacteria,” said Dave Asprey in a post on LinkedIn. “You can find it in vegetables like asparagus and artichokes, or you can take it as a powder supplement. I recommend working up to about 20 grams per day.”

Asprey explained that prebiotics feed beneficial bacteria in the gut, helping them thrive while crowding out harmful microbes. This, in turn, strengthens the immune system by boosting the population of bacteria that fight off disease-causing pathogens. He also noted a lesser-known benefit: memory enhancement. Research suggests that prebiotic fiber supports the gut-brain axis, a complex communication pathway that influences mood, cognition, and neurological health.

According to Asprey, most people don’t get enough prebiotic fiber in their diets—despite its broad-spectrum effects. Adding it daily, even in small amounts, can improve both physical resilience and mental clarity.
