Dave Asprey Decoded: Why he believes high-dose Vitamin C is a daily essential

Dave Asprey is the founder of Bulletproof and a leading voice in the biohacking movement. He has authored several books on human performance and is known for promoting technologies and practices aimed at optimizing health, longevity, and mental clarity.

Dave Asprey, founder of Bulletproof and one of the most vocal figures in the biohacking world, has long argued that vitamin C isn’t just for cold prevention. He sees it as a daily tool for resilience—supporting everything from collagen production to cognitive health.

In a LinkedIn post, Dave outlined five “superpowers” of vitamin C, including its role in immune defense, neurotransmitter support, and protection from oxidative stress. His claim: vitamin C, in the right dose and form, enhances performance at the cellular level.

He’s also a vocal proponent of high-dose intravenous (IV) vitamin C, particularly in clinical or recovery settings. In a blog post on vitamin C as a cancer therapy, Dave describes its potential use as part of an integrative treatment strategy, citing research showing its ability to reduce inflammation and oxidative stress markers.

For daily use, Dave recommends buffered ascorbic acid or liposomal vitamin C to reduce the gut irritation that can come from large oral doses. In another article focused on skincare and longevity, he also discusses topical application of vitamin C as a way to boost skin health and elasticity.

Scientific consensus supports many of his claims—especially around collagen production and wound healing. Research published in Nutrients suggests that while high-dose vitamin C may modestly reduce cold duration, the most robust effects are seen in skin repair and connective tissue resilience. Studies also link vitamin C levels to cognitive performance, though the causal connection is still debated.

Asprey’s core philosophy isn’t just about fixing health problems—it’s about building resilience proactively. Vitamin C, in his view, is one of the easiest tools for creating that strong biological foundation.
