Dave Asprey: ‘Your environment plays a huge role in your health’

Dave Asprey is the founder of Bulletproof and Upgrade Labs and is considered one of the pioneers of the biohacking movement. He is a four-time New York Times bestselling author focused on helping people extend their healthspan and optimize performance.

Dave Asprey shared five actionable steps to reduce toxic exposure in the home, urging his audience to be intentional about their environment as a critical factor in long-term health.

“Your environment plays a huge role in your health, and since you spend a good portion of your life at home, it’s essential to make it a healthy environment,” said Dave Asprey in a post on LinkedIn.

He then outlined five practical detox strategies:

  • Get rid of air fresheners – which often contain hormone-disrupting chemicals. Asprey recommends replacing them with essential oil diffusers.
  • Take off your shoes indoors – to avoid tracking in allergens and toxins from the outside.
  • Filter your water – since municipal tap water may contain heavy metals, BPA, and pesticides.
  • Turn off your WiFi at night – to potentially reduce exposure to electromagnetic fields and improve sleep.
  • Replace plastic containers with glass – as plastics can leach endocrine-disrupting compounds like BPA into food.

Asprey’s focus on the home environment reflects his broader biohacking philosophy: identify and remove invisible stressors to unlock better sleep, energy, and focus. His advice mirrors findings in environmental medicine, which point to indoor air, water quality, and household materials as major health factors.
