In a recent post, Dr. Elie Jarrouge challenged conventional wisdom on cholesterol, urging a shift away from LDL-focused health strategies toward broader markers of metabolic health.
“Stop obsessing over LDL cholesterol. Focus on metabolic health,” said Dr. Elie Jarrouge in a post on X. “Low LDL won’t protect you if you’re metabolically unhealthy (e.g. type 2 diabetes). If you’re metabolically healthy, LDL is irrelevant.”
He cited waist circumference, fasting insulin, and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) as his preferred biomarkers for assessing long-term health risk.
Jarrouge’s stance reflects a growing view among metabolic health experts that LDL alone is an incomplete predictor of cardiovascular outcomes. Studies increasingly show that insulin resistance, chronic inflammation, and visceral fat are more directly linked to disease progression—regardless of LDL levels.
Jarrouge is a primary care physician and advocate for root-cause, lifestyle-first medicine. He focuses on using personalized nutrition, movement, and lab metrics to prevent and reverse chronic disease.
